Pets of the SCRC - Part II

Since several staff members have welcomed new pets into their family, the SCRC would like to to showcase another paws-itively adorable edition of "Pets of the SCRC." To view the original blog post published in 2019, please click this link.
If you’re considering adopting a pet, we’ve included links to the organizations and rescues we adopted some of our pets from below. Please consider adopting through an animal rescue organization or pet sanctuary!
Daphne is a 3 year old beagle/lab mix from the Pittsboro Farm Friends Rescue. She is very energetic and likes to play football with her human brother. She plays hard and sleeps hard! Lucy is a parakeet/budgie who likes to zoom bomb meetings. She loves time outside of her cage including hanging out in kitchen cabinets and riding on people's shoulders. She also likes to mess with her dog sister, Daphne.
Boba Fett and Gryffindor Legolas are siblings, and I adopted them from a family friend. They are both Doll Face Persian cats, which means their noses extend outward, and they can breathe easier than other extreme-faced Persian cat breeds. Boba Fett (also known as the galaxy's greatest bounty hunter) is a little shy with strangers but very mischievous and protective of her brother. Gryffindor is a people person who is also afraid of everything (contrary to his namesake)!
For those considering adopting Persian cats, please be aware that they are very HIGH maintenance pets with likely genetic issues due to overbreeding. If you are interested in rescuing one of these fluffy babies, Rescue Me is a great organization that rehouses Persian cats in your local area.
5 Fast Facts about WALL-E (WALL-E was adopted from local rescue Pawsitively Pugs)
Favorite Food: Vegan cheese, potatoes of all kinds…really anything that gets him to move out from sitting in the refrigerator when the door opens. Oh! and anything that mom is eating.
Favorite Hobby: Napping (WALL-E is a sleep EXPERT!)
Favorite Destination: Going to the couch from the bed or going from the bed to the couch.
Favorite Season: Fall (loves the feel of dead leaves under his perfect paws)

My darling doggo Stickeen is a 4-year-old Whippet x Jack Russell mix, and he is a very good boy. My sweet Stickeen was the runt of his litter, but grew up to be a healthy boy with long colt legs that send him on zoomies. He loves to sniff around the backyard or just stand on the deck and watch the world go by. He is a lovable boy who will greet you with a wiggly butt and boisterous hello bark. I love my puddin' pup!
Doss Hill
Named after Virginia Woolf, this fluffy critter spends his days searching for the perfect sunny spot to take a nap.
Dundee is a 3 year old Australian Shepherd. Since his puppy days he's discovered the joys of chasing balls, playing in the snow, and hiking in the woods (that's where all the sticks are!). Ball is life, but he also enjoys playing with his friends at daycare, especially puppies, and loves getting pets from any person he meets.
We adopted Dinko four years ago and he is such a great addition to our family. He's extremely sweet, handsome, gentle, patient, a complete lovebug, and will knock you over trying to nuzzle and cuddle. He is an amazing big brother to our toddler (in return for whatever food she drops on the floor) and loves everyone he meets except for delivery people, bicyclists, and skateboarders.
Jake & Elwood are brothers we adopted a little over 10 years ago in Lehigh Acres, FL. Their mother had decided to give birth to them in my friend's garage. They are sweet, snuggly, and my shadows. We adopted Sami from Animal Services in Tallahassee almost 5 years ago. She is half German Shepherd and half Brittany. She has a ton of energy, very food motivated, and is typically in ON or OFF mode - loves to run, play, and then lounge on the couch with us - asleep in seconds.
Spiegel (left) and Asche (right) are gray cats I adopted a few months apart. When I got Spiegel, he liked looking at his reflection, hence his name—the German word for "mirror." These days, he's more concerned with kibble. Asche likes to "roar" to himself in empty rooms, which my colleagues have heard on Zoom.
Dorothy Parker, a white and gray cat, was named after the writer and lives up to her namesake. Having been born on a farm, she enjoys and tries to steal milk and butter from the kitchen.
Olivia Bonnette
Chance (hound/lab mix) and Harper (shepherd mix) are about 11 years old. They both spent 9 weeks in a prison and were trained by prisoners as part of the “New Leash On Life” program. In prison, Chance earned the nickname, The Rug, which perfectly describes his personality. He's a little lazy at times, and he loves to lie down on his dog bed and watch movies with us. He’s also the protector of the house, but really he is all bark and no bite. Harper, on the other hand, would most definitely welcome any intruders into the house. She's very sociable and will love anyone that gives her attention. I will say she can be a bit of a diva. She wants all of the attention! She only sleeps on “human” furniture and would never stoop so low as to even touch a dog bed. They are both the loves of my life and they bring happiness to anyone that meets them! Fun fact, Chance and Harper go to the same doggie daycare as Tuffy III.
